Debtors’ Prison: Knowedge is the Key to Escaping Debt

Debtors' Prison and Bankruptcy

It is not uncommon for debt collectors to threaten people with arrest, pass themselves off as attorneys, and even police officers.  Fortunately, there is no debtors’ prison in the Untied States, and such activities are prohibited by law. (We will address these issues in an upcoming post.)  However, it occurs to me that there is a different type of debtors’ prison.  The imprisonment of debt takes a heavy toll on virtually all aspects of a person’s  life, including work, family, friendships, and even health.  Life becomes filled with lost opportunities.  It becomes increasingly hard to concentrate at work.  Small family disagreements become major arguments and simmering resentments.  Often, people find themselves retreating from life.  I see it all the time.

The key to escaping the prison of debt is knowledge. Whether you are thinking about bankruptcy, debt negotiation, or something else, it is critical to get all the information you can, so you can make an informed decision.  To that end, I hope that this blog becomes an important resource for Pennsylvania debtors .  For more information, you may also wish to take a look my law firm’s  bankruptcy website (www.bankruptcylawyerpa.com), which contains an FAQ covering many of the common issues in bankruptcy, as well as overviews of  Chapter 7 Bankruptcy, Chapter 13 Bankruptcy, and debt negotiation.

I trust you will find our Philadelphia bankruptcy attorney blog to be informative.  If you live in the Philadelphia, Montgomery County, or Delaware County in Pennsylvania and would like to discuss your options with a Pennsylvania bankruptcy attorney, please give me a call at 215-248-0989 or use our contact form to send me an email.  I am always happy to answer questions, and all initial consultations are free.  Our office is convenient to much of the greater Philadelphia area.
